What is Waste Management?
It is the collection, transportation, and disposal of garbage, sewage, or other waste output.
The procedure of waste management involves treating solid and liquid waste.
During treatment, it also implements solutions for recycling items.
Various Methods of Waste Disposal
Landfills
Dumping daily waste/ trash in landfills is the most widely used method of waste disposal used currently.
This process of waste disposal usually involves burying the waste beneath the ground.
The purification, detoxification process undertaken usually removes the odors and dangers of waste before it is buried beneath the ground.
Landfills eventually lead to air and water pollution which seriously affects the environment and can turn hazardous to the lives of humans and wildlife.

Incineration or combustion is a type disposal method in which municipal solid wastes are incinerated at high temperatures. The process gradually turns them into residues and gaseous forms.
Incinerators are basically used in thermal treatment where solid waste materials are processed into heat, gas, steam, and ash.
Recovery and Recycling
Resource recovery is the procedure of taking functional discarded items for recycling to other forms. These discarded items are then processed to extract or recover materials and resources or transform them to energy in the form of consumable heat, electricity, or fuel.
Recycling is the process of converting waste products into new products to inhibit energy usage and consumption of fresh raw materials. Recycling is the third component of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste hierarchy.
Plasma gasification
Plasma gasification is another form of waste management. Plasma is primarily an electrically charged or highly ionized gas. Lighting is one type of plasma that produces temperatures that exceed 12,600 °F.
With this method of waste disposal, a vessel uses characteristic plasma torches operating at +10,000 °F which is creating a gasification zone till 3,000 °F for the conversion of solid or liquid wastes into a syngas.
During the treatment of solid waste by plasma gasification, the waste’s molecular bonds are disintegrated, dissolved because of the immense heat in the vessels and the elemental breakdown.
Composting
Composting is a basic and natural bio-degradation process that takes organic wastes i.e. remains of plants and garden and kitchen waste and turns into nutrient-rich food for your plants.
Composting, usually used for organic farming, occurs by allowing organic materials to remain in one location for months until microbes decompose it.
Note that composting is often regarded to as one of the best procedures of waste disposal as it can convert unsafe organic products into safe compost residue.
Waste to Energy (Recover Energy)
Waste-to-Energy also universally recognized by its acronym WtE is the generation of energy in the form of heat or electricity from waste.
Waste to energy (WtE) process involves the conversion of non-recyclable waste items into useable heat, electricity, or fuel through a variety of processes. This version of combustible energy is a renewable energy source as non-recyclable waste can be used repeatedly to create it.
Special Waste Disposal
There exist specific waste types that are deemed hazardous and cannot be discarded of without specific treatment which will prevent contamination from happening.
Biomedical waste is an example of such a waste disposal procedure. It is regularly performed in health care facilities and related institutions. The special waste disposal system effectively disposes of hazardous biomedical waste.
Avoidance/Waste Minimization
The simpler method of waste management is to reduce the creation of waste materials thus reducing the amount of waste shipped to landfills.
Waste reduction can be achieved through recycling old materials like jar, bags, repairing broken items instead of buying a new one, refraining from use of disposable products like plastic bags, reusing second-hand items, and purchasing items that are less extravagant, more modest.
