Top Shopping Malls In Singapore

featured top shopping malls in Singapore

Shopping malls are the miracle story of the 21st century. With the rise of e-commerce, why is there still a mall within a 15-minutes car ride everywhere around this island? Instead of tearing down old ones, why are most of them undergoing a facelift instead?

Most importantly, why do we continue to show up at the malls almost every weekend (and probably weeknights)?

While online shopping may offer the convenience of getting your stuff, there are definitely amenities and experiences malls provide that will be irreplaceable.

According to a Straits Times article, shopping malls evolving according to our needs. Take a look at Jewel Changi Airport. Aside from its claim-to-fame world’s tallest indoor waterfall that inspires another”Instagram moment”, Jewel also offers Singaporeans experiences of nature without being under the sweltering heat.

The amphitheatre circumferencing the rain vortex is lusciously groomed with plants, making it the perfect paktor or dating spot. Feeling too stressed out by the concrete jungle? Trying chilling out or meditating there! Additionally, Jewel’s canopy park and hedge maze offer some air-conditioned adventure for the whole family.

Malls can also be a place where dreams are built. With its #supportlocal spirit, Design Orchard offers an opportunity for local designers and creatives to showcase their products. There’s also a co-working space for home-grown designers to gather and collaborate.

Here are some other reasons why we will still need malls.

Some experiences are best savoured at the malls.

Imagine eating your favourite ramen in a Tupperware, facing the 4 familiar walls of your room. How about drinking your Guinness Stout from a can instead of a tap?

Actually we don’t have to imagine. We are already living that life during this circuit breaker period. Loving it much? Seriously.

Yes. Online streaming this. Netflix that. Yet, nothing beats watching your favourite blockbuster in the comfort of a state-of-the-art theatre with surround sound, minus the distracting tabs on your Chrome.

There’s more transparency when you buy stuff offline.

Sure. You see that nice dress on TaoBao. But how do you know it’s going to fit you, just because someone known as funkygirl_88 types so?

It could be a result of good photography and lighting. Perhaps it’s a result of good editing. Perhaps it’s a result of hiring writers like me to sprinkle flower petals and scent around the description.

You never know if a dress fits you until you try it on.

Mall provides a space where we can gather and socialise.

Hmm…what shall we do this weekend? Watch a movie? Karaoke? Yoga? Zumba? Paintball? Art jam?

Argh! The paradox of choice!

When such cognitive warfare happens amongst our friend circle, there’s a 97.3462352253% chance that we’ll end up in a shopping mall.

There’s air-conditioning, which is near survival-like vital. There’s also a range of shopping, dining and entertaining options.

While we wait for a consensus on the next activity to do, we’ll most likely end up in a café or the food court. Even if we’re tired of making a decision, many of us are quite comfortable with just staying put to talk cock and chill.

If all things fail, I’m sure there’s a cinema somewhere on the very top or very bottom level.

“A train station, shopping mall, mono rail station, kids pool, restaurants and an amphitheater ; that’s a lot to keep you busy for the whole day and very convenient to get there The mall has almost everything for shoppers, right from electronics to groceries to accessories. The kids pool / play area and open theater is on the very top. Pool is quite shallow which makes it perfect for younger kids and parents. You can also enjoy the view from the top.” – Ravi.D

Review 2

“best location to go to in downtown south! all in one with shopping, eatery, in fact probably more than 100 stalls and food variety, with 2 large food courts, one in the basement while the other on the top floor. integrated with cineplex, kids playground, and business restaurants for client meetings and lunch entertainment. carpark is easy and navigating around is seamless. $3 per entry after 6pm!” – NYJ

Review 3

“Great environment! You can shop- pharmacy, Daiso and so much more- till you drop! Amazing supermarket with so many facilities, like games, a mini playground, a mini greenhouse for growing vegetables and even a luggage and bicycle shop to buy and fix! There is even a rooftop to gaze at the sunset or splash around in the pool or go to a steamboat (Haidilao) ! You can also take the monorail to Sentosa to have some fun. One of my favourite places to visit.” – Katina.Z

“It’s a lovely place to hang around, the food is amazing and the drinks too. Some places have live music, so they keep you energetic to move your grooves. There’s a Mexican pub too where the Salsa dance was amazing. Even for non drinkers you can just stroll around the street and enjoy the river side view. I was in this place till 3 a.m and the place was still lovely. Overall its a good place to spend the evening at Clarke Quay.” – Anand.R

Review 2

“Perfect place for night chilling and a stroll along the quay. Best Weekend Place. The most happening part of Singapore with pubs, bars, restaurants, you can choose what you like to do, drink & Eat.it really comes alive because of the beautiful lighting. Just sitting by the riverfront is fun enough.

You can enjoy the cruise as you are ferried on the canal. Some bars also have live music. The restaurants, clubs houses and malls area all there for your entertainment. We visit on a Friday night and the atmosphere was really good. The food here is awesome, there is a wide variety you can choose from. Really loved the atmosphere with people from all walks of life enjoying themselves. Highly recommended!” – Roshan.N

Review 3

“This is more of a party place where you can have loads of fun with good food, live music by the river side. There’s a ride as well.. if you want to have an adrenaline rush then you can try it. The entire place is full of people and a great hangout during the weekends. There’s the Clarke quay central mall and this is the place where you can also take the boat rides for about forty minutes against S$25 per adult.” – Anwesha.T

“Love this mall. It leaves an impression on you from the moment you step out of the train – the mall scent is so distinctive and fragrant. It is also a one-stop mall for anything you can think of buying, except for a supermarket, which was replaced by JD sports. Good number of seats scattered around the mall to rest your legs when you get tired from shopping.” – XT

Review 1

A very hip and modern shopping mall, at the very heart of orchard (Singapore shopping belt). Great location with many speciality shop brands found here.” -Eugene.Y

Review 2

“This is one of the more popular malls along the Orchard Road stretch for a few reasons. It sits on top of the Somerset MRT station, it’s located right in the middle of Orchard Road, it’s connected to another two mini malls, Orchard Central and Orchard Gateway which themselves houses lots of hip eateries and retail joints, and Jem Hotel. The popular Don Don Donki (aka Don Quixote in Japan) open 24/7 is just a 3-5 minutes walk away. 313 Somerset itself houses the mainstream high street fashion brands like Zara, Forever 21, Mango and Cotton On. Huawei service centre is in basement one. There’s a myriad of F&B eateries in both basement one and two, level one and Food Republic on a higher level which you can choose from. Easily accessible by MRT, public transport with numerous bus services stopping just opposite the mall on Orchard Road and Paterson Road. It’s a popular rendezvous point.” – Bunny.V
