Tips for hiring a plumber
Check with relevant authorities for referrals
If you live in a HDB flat, your town council may have a list of approved plumbers. They are usually selected through a tender process. They are only allowed to charge according to rates stated in their contract. This can assure you that your plumbing needs will be in safe hands. Should there be any issues with your plumber, you can always contact your town council for help.
If you live in a condominium, check with the manager to find out if there’s a resident plumber.
Check on your plumber’s background
Firstly, make sure your plumber is licensed by the Public Utilities Board, or PUB for short. It is a crime to hire unlicensed plumbers in Singapore. You may be fined and even jailed up to 12 months!
Google up comments and ratings from previous customers and find out their experiences with the plumbers.
To find out how competent they are, ask them if they have encountered a similar issue previously and how they managed to solve it.
If there’s a need to alter the piping system for a new installation, make sure your plumber knows what kind of license or permit is required.
Ensure transparency
Before you agree to anything, confirm the price. Ensure that there are no hidden charges. Is the plumber insured? Is there a warranty period or a full money-back guarantee should there be deficiencies in the job?
Be specific about your concerns and needs. Even if you aren’t familiar with the plumbing jargons, you can always use your senses to describe the problem. Do you smell a gas leak? Is there hot water available in the shower?
Always be with the plumber when he’s working and feel free to ask questions if you don’t understand what he’s doing.
How often is plumbing needed?

1) Check with your town council

2) Get job descriptions and warranty in proofed contracts
