Some reasons women get breast implants
As the name suggests, breasts implants are implants that are surgically inserted into breasts in a breast augmentation surgery. There are many reasons as to why women turn to breast augmentation surgery to achieve fuller and larger breasts. Some of the common reasons are:
Disproportionately small breasts
A perceived condition called macromastia may cause breasts to remain underdeveloped, where a woman’s breasts remain small and disproportionate despite overcoming puberty and outgrowing their adolescent years. There is no objective definition of small breasts, however, most women compare themselves with other women of similar build. Smaller-breasted women often complain about being less attractive or desirable. Breast implants in such cases give them larger and fuller breasts and an added bonus, a boost to their self-esteem and confidence.
Asymmetrical breasts
Breasts, like every appendage of the body are susceptible to uneven growth due to hormonal issues and other factors. Often, when the difference is noticeable, it impacts a woman’s confidence. An even bust is achievable with breast implants, helping women achieve the appearance they want and boosting their self-confidence.
Breasts changed shape following a surgery or pregnancy
Women who have had a mastectomy may find that their breasts are no longer in the shapes that they are used to. While those who have recently completed a pregnancy may find their breasts reducing in size and appear to be sagging. Breast implants and breast reconstruction may be the way to go to restore the wholeness of post-surgery breasts and give mothers back their pre-pregnant bodies.
To look more youthful
As women age, they tend to notice that their breasts sag and shrink. Breast implants serve to restore the youthfulness to their adornments and their figures, giving a fresh new life to their confidence and self-esteem.
To be more attractive
Most women’s clothes are designed to fit proportionate breasts, and breast implants can help achieve that. Having better fitting clothes will enable women to feel more attractive and more confident.

Some things to note before getting breast implants
Before going under the knife (if you have already decided), here are some of the lesser-known facts about breast augmentation surgery that you should probably get acquainted with.
Most health insurance policies do not cover such cosmetic surgeries
Health insurance rarely cover breast augmentation surgeries due to the fact that it is for cosmetic reasons. However, if you have recently gone through a mastectomy, the breast reconstruction surgery will likely be covered since it was a health reasons that led to the surgery.
There are many implant types available
While most people are acquainted with silicone implants, it is important to know that there are more implant types that just that. Knowing the various qualities of each material will help you make a more informed decision about the type of implant you want inserted into your chest. The most popular choice is silicone due to the fact that it feels more natural and appears firmer.
Know that there are different incision types
Knowing where your doctor will be making the incision on your breast is important. There are four main areas where the doctor will make the incision, in the armpit, on the tummy, the crease under the breast or through the areola, with the latter two being the most common for incisions. Some things to consider will be your body’s scarring reaction and if there are any specific clothing types that you wear on a regular basis, like tank tops, where your underarms will potentially be exposed.
Know the doctor
As this is an intimate surgery that is potentially life-changing, knowing the doctor is important. With social media, this is often not too difficult, and knowing what kind of personality and their patients’ results will help form a more realistic perception of what to expect after your surgery.
Implants do not last forever
Hence, your first breast augmentation surgery probably will not be your last. Most implants will need to be changed out after 12 to 15 years, sometimes sooner. Reasons could be due to leaks, or scarring tissue growing around it and causing it to change in shape. Also, some of these implants may cause cancer, albeit not a serious form of cancer and is easily curable, it still is something to deal with. Therefore, budgeting for regular checks and a subsequent revision surgery is essential.
Try on different sizes before deciding on one
It is important to try on the different sizes before you decide on a size. Put them on, feel how they are and see how you look, then decide.
Breast augmentation may affect your ability to breastfeed
As with all surgeries, tissue will be removed as part of the process, which means for breast augmentation surgeries, the amount of breast tissue will be reduced, and this may hinder the ability of the breast to produce milk. It is highly possible that you may still be able to breastfeed with implants as long as the incision is made as far away from the nipple as possible.
Psychological effects
Whatever the motivation may be for you to get breast implants, psychological effects are part of the package. Of course, most women experience a positive change with their new and improved embellishments. However, a small group may find themselves struggling with other preconceived notions surrounding the change they have made to their body. It may be inevitable but being prepared is one way to deter such negative thoughts.
Breast implant illness exists
Some women may experience breast implant illness and they do not recover until the implants are removed. Not much light has been shed in this area, and it is best to talk to your doctor about your concerns regarding this.
Sometimes, your posture will be affected
Implants bear weight and adding them to your chest will mean a heavier chest, especially when you are going for more than two sizes up. However, if the chosen size is proportionate to your frame your posture should not be affected drastically.
How much does it cost to get breast implants?
Depending on the implant type and clinic, the cost of implants are usually between SGD $10,000 to $20,000. These prices may or may not be inclusive of the prevailing fees that comes with the surgery, such as operating room costs, post surgical medication, consultation and review session fees.
