No one should lie to you – a good SEO agency doesn’t come cheap.

If you can afford one, we highly recommend hiring them to work on your campaign for at least eight weeks (ideally 12) and see what that does to your business.

If that sounds like a lot, then you’re probably better off working with an in-house SEO team. Don’t get us wrong: We’re not saying it’s impossible to find an affordable SEO agency in Singapore; we’re just saying that it’s very unlikely. And if you do find one, the chances are good they’re using some underhanded SEO tactics.

The Cost of Doing SEO: Let’s break down the cost of doing your own SEO campaign so you can have a better idea of what to expect.

So, let’s say you hire an agency to do your SEO. How much will it cost you?

Well, the cost of SEO tends to vary depending on what’s included, but you should be willing to spend at least $1500 per month.

Ahref interviewed 350 SEO consultants and freelancers to find out how much they charge:

Most agencies work with monthly retainers

74.71% of the respondents said they charged a monthly retainer, while 12.50% charged per task. A handful of consultants said they charge an annual retainer, while others work with their clients on a per-project or hourly fee basis.

The retainer amount also varied between countries but seldom exceeded $5000 94.23% of the agencies priced their retainers below $5000).

Overall, the retainers ranged from $1500 to $5000/month

While Some Agencies Have Multiple Pricing Models, Others Only Have One

59.1% of the agencies had only one pricing model, while 23% had two models, and 17.9% had three or more pricing options.

39.66% of the agencies only had the monthly retainer — no hourly rates or per project pricing.

For Hourly Pricing, $100 to $150 per hour is the Most Popular Option

25% of all per hourly rates fall within the $100 to $150 per hour range. 19.53% of the agencies had rates within the $75 to $100 range.

For Per-project Pricing, $500 to $1000 Per project is the Most Popular Option

25.17% of all per project rates fall within this category, while 52.3% charge a once-off fee of 1000+ dollars.

A few companies were charging as high as $25 000 or even $50 000 per project.

Hourly Rates Seldom Went Beyond $150

88.28% of those interviewed said they charged less than $150 per hour, and only 11.72% of the respondents charged more than this amount.

Half of them (50.44%) charged between $75 and $150 per hour. Only 6.25% of the rates exceed $200 per hour, and a mere 1.61% surpassed $300 per hour.

Agencies Charge Twice as Much as Freelancers

While freelancers charge 68/hr., agencies charge 134.66/hr.

Freelancers are more likely to have higher rates if they stack many years of experience in the field, offer contact hours, and possess certifications.

It’s the same with monthly retainers. Agencies charged two to four times as much as freelancers.

Experienced SEO Charge More than their Inexperienced Counterparts

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. SEO with over two years of experience charged 39.4% more on their hourly rates, 102.41% more on their monthly retainers, and 275% more for once-off projects than their counterparts with less than two years of experience.

SEOs Targeting a Local Clientele Charged Less than Those Targeting a Global Market

SEOs targeting a global market charged 130.74% more for their monthly retainers than those targeting a local market.

The story was similar for their hourly and per-project pricing, just not that extreme. Brazilian, Latin American and Indian SEOs charged the least

When asked about what they charge per hour, freelancers from these countries mentioned $60 or almost half of what their US counterparts charge: $200-$300/hr.
