How to Get No. 1 on Google My Business Listings

Canonical

Google My Business (GMB) is one of the surest ways of getting your business ranked at the top of SERPs. Thanks to recent Google algorithm updates, when user searches “restaurant” Google will display a map and a list of three of the top restaurants in the area at the top of search engine results. That way, a user might find what they need without scrolling further down.

To appear in the top three for local searches you have to create a GMB account. If you have GMB account and are still not ranking in the top three for local searches, you need to optimize your Google My Business. The following actions and tips will improve your GMB listings.

Complete and accurate data

The information about your business you provide in GMB should be accurate. The most important information here is the company name, phone number, and address. Make sure you include the local phone number before the toll-free number (if you have one). The other information should be as detailed as possible. Add the opening time and your website.

The consistency of this information is crucial. Check your site has your correct business name, phone number, and location. Also, make sure all local directories have the accurate information about your business.

Choose a relevant category

In setting up the GMB account, you have to pick a category for your business. The category helps Google determine local listings that your business should belong. Not only should you choose a category relevant to your business, but also a highly specific category. For instance, “grocery store” is relevant but not as relevant and precise as “provision shop” if you target the heartland population.

Quality Images

Google insists on quality images. GMB allows you to upload more than one image for your business. Upload photos of the exterior and interior of your business. Also, include the pictures of the product or services you offer. Hire a professional photographer who can take a 360-dgree view of your business.

Attract good reviews

Reviews create trust and credibility. The more positive reviews your business gets, the better it ranks in local listings. The businesses in the local search snippet have a star rating. Excellent products, services, and customer relation attract good reviews. You can ask our happy customers to rate you. Also, always respond to the reviews, both good and bad.

A local business should concentrate and local SEO, and GMB is one way of achieving that goal. You can hire the best local SEO agency to help with optimizing GMB content, and also optimize your site, for that much coveted top rank in local listings.
